Alberta "Bert" Mathis

Alberta "Bert" Mathis, age 78, passed away on December 9, 2022, in Tyler, TX. She was born on June 12, 1944, in Fort Devens, MA to parents Albert and Eileen (Wilder) Russell.

Bert, as she was known to everyone, married J.W. Mathis on November 2, 1969, in Dallas, TX. They had five beautiful children, Tammy, Samantha, Jeffery, Rebecca, and Trisha, and were together for 43 years before J.W.’s passing in December of 2012. Bert enjoyed horse riding and had a knack for making her grandkids mind using a wooden spoon. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. 

Bert is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eileen Russell; her husband, J.W. Mathis; and her son, Jeffery Mathis.

Bert is survived by her daughters, Tammy Benton and husband Mike of Chatfield, TX, Samantha Clemmo and husband Richard of Kemp, TX, Rebecca Harrison and husband William of Ben Wheeler, TX, and Trisha Rogers and husband Ryan of Fruitvale, TX; her grandsons, Jermey Mathis of Frost, TX, Christopher Moseley of Chatfield, TX, Jadyn Ledbetter of Delta, UT, Dustin Wade and wife Elizabeth of Lone Oak, TX, Austin Wade of Palestine, TX, Colby Wade of Tyler, TX, Colton Wade of Lubbock, TX, and Dylan Ashcraft and wife Jalyn of Kemp, TX; her granddaughters, Kayla Reed and husband James of Quinlan, TX, Tiffany Bergin and husband Tyler of Mabank, TX, and Stephanie Whitecotton and husband Brady of Wills Point, TX; 10 great-grandkids; and her sister, Judy Russell of Mesquite, TX.
