Chris Handlin Sr,

Donald “Chris” Handlin Sr. was born on November 15, 1961, in Dallas, Texas to Walter Thomas and Betty Joyce (Mankins) Handlin Sr, and passed away on January 9, 2025, in Gun Barrel City, Texas.

He was a beloved member of his community, known for his generous spirit and welcoming nature. Chris never met a stranger, effortlessly forging connections and bonds with those around him. His warmth and hospitality were most reflected during family gatherings and holidays, where he always brought his homemade apple pie and could often be found playing cards with loved ones. Chris’ passion for life extended beyond these cherished moments; he enjoyed the great outdoors, embraced hunting, and found joy sitting on the porch to soak in the world around him. He delighted in cooking for friends and family, often preparing his favorite dish, chicken fried steak, and sharing a cold Keystone beer.

Chris married his wife and best friend of 33 years on August 3, 1991, in Payne Springs, Texas. Chris took immense pride in his family, regarding his wife, children, and grandchildren as his proudest accomplishments.  They were the heart of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His legacy of giving, coupled with the memories of his laughter and love, will be lasting reminders of the impact he had on those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Chris leaves behind a rich legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Greg Handlin and Michael Handlin.

 He is survived by his wife, Kristen Handlin; children, Christina Handlin, LeAnne Handlin, Charles Bullard (Emily), Carson Handlin (Tiffany), and Chris Handlin, Jr.; grandchildren, Cody Cobb, Jr., Brooklynn Cobb, Hunter Bullard, Gage Bullard, Roland Bullard, Cayson Handlin, Coyt Handlin, Donald Chris Handlin III, James Handlin, Kirsten Handlin, and Tyler Handlin; Three great grandchildren; siblings, Walter Gene Handlin (Bernice), Cynthia Tucker (Jim), and Danna Handlin; numerous nieces and nephews.
