Ida C. Halbrooks

Ida C. Halbrooks age 89, of Kemp, Texas passed away on October 29, 2022. Ida was born on January 24, 1933 in Blaine, Montana to parents Merlin James Cole and Annie (Powell) Cole.

Ida was good at anything she set her mind to. She was hands on and loved to be creative. Ida enjoyed sewing, reading, and canning. Ida was a beekeeper at one time. She worked many years at Terrell State Hospital as an Admissions Supervisor.  Ida and J.W. Halbrooks married on May 30, 1952 and created  a beautiful life together with lots of good memories. Some of those memories included traveling as often as she could. She loved camping in the mountains in Colorado to beautiful beaches in Mexico. She traveled all over the United States and out of the country to Africa, Spain, Scotland, and Canada.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband J.W. Halbrooks; son John Robert Halbrooks, sister Elizabeth Cole Wright and nephew David Wright.

Ida is survived by her children James Halbrooks and wife Pam Westbrook of Kemp, TX, Joanie H. Johnston of Portland, OR, Linda VanCleave of Athens, TX and Alan Halbrooks and wife Cathy of Kemp, TX; 10 grandchildren: Cristi H. Vanderburg and husband Vann, George Clifton VanCleave, Jeffery VanCleave and wife Miki, Mary (Libby) Dunlap and husband Nick, Benjamin (Wes) VanCleave, Cole Roffman and wife Amy, Amber Gregg, Alan (A.J.) Halbrooks, Haley Halbrooks, Ashley Elizondo; 11 great grandchildren Ashlynn Halbrooks, Aubree Prine, Avery Prine, Arianna Hernandez, Trent Brown, Jessica Lewis and husband Parker, Holli Brook Vanderburg, Abby VanCleave, Ava Roffman, Maxwell VanCleave and   Margot VanCleave; niece Diana Wright; great nieces Dara Green and Thea Green; best friends Elaine and John McAbee along with a host of other beloved family and friends who will miss her dearly.
