Margie Tarpley, age 88, of Kemp, TX passed away peacefully Thursday, February 10,2022, in her home with family by her side.
Margie was born May 21, 1933, to Dempsie & Virgie (Brewer) Elston in Peeltown, TX. She met the love of her life, Jeff Tarpley, while attending Kemp High School. They were married October 28, 1950, almost 70 years, until Jeff passed away in 2020. They raised their three children, Kathie, Sherron & Tommy in Mesquite. There they had many wonderful memories with friends and family on Hogan Drive before moving back to Kemp in the late 70’s. Margie was primarily a homemaker, managing her household well. She and Jeff made a great team in so many ways. They were savers, able to buy land at a very young age. Upon moving back to Kemp, they built a home on that land and started Tarpley Bit & Machine with Margie handling the administrative side of the business. She was a loving and strong wife, mother, Nana, and friend; the Matriarch of the family. Holiday gatherings at her home were the glue that held the family together. In addition, she was a devoted daughter, the primary caregiver for her parents and brother for many years. We are thankful that she was ours and we were hers. We admired, respected, and loved her and will miss her very much.
Margie is survived by 3 children: daughter Kathie Norman and husband Watt, daughter Sherron Pyle and husband Ray, son Tommy Tarpley and wife Sandy; grandchildren, Steve Stevens and wife Miriam; Camille Gaddis, Cortney Gaddis, Cody Tarpley, Trey Norman, Ashley Norman, Tony Pyle, Bart Pyle, Nanci Bauer, Clint Venable, great grandchildren Morgan, Thomas, Amyrie, Cooper, Alivia, Eli, Jayci, Hunter, Connor, Noah, Ryland, Everly, and Liam.
She was preceded in death by husband Jeff Tarpley, parents Dempsie & Virgie Elston, brother Virgil Elston, and great grandson, Christian Maddox.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Brewer, Bobby Coker, Kenneth Davenport, Thomas Stevens, Cody Tarpley, and John Tarpley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Coker, Steve Stevens, Jeff Tarpley, and Wayne Tarpley.
