Sue Spakes

Visitation for Retha Sue Spakes , age 90, of Kemp, Texas will be held at 3:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. on Friday, January 14, 2022, and Chapel service will be Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, TX. Graveside service will follow the chapel service at Kemp Cemetery in Kemp, TX. Reverend Greg Thomas will officiate.

Retha Sue Spakes was born to Charlie Martin Weeks and Ethel Elmyra (Collins) Weeks on January 17,1931, in Palmyra, Arkansas. Mrs. Spakes went to be with her maker on January 6,2022, in Athens, Texas.

Sue was a member of Spring Creek Independent Baptist Church in Kemp, Texas where she strongly enjoyed the gospel music and receiving God's word. Mrs. Spakes became united in holy matrimony with her husband, Richard Eugene Spakes on May 10,1947. Sue was a homemaker throughout her life, spending her time being a faithful wife to her husband while raising her children. During free time Mrs. Spakes found much enjoyment in fishing and gardening, sometimes alone reading her Bible and other times gathered by her grand kids. You could always find Sue sitting quietly with a cross word puzzle book to relax.

Sue is survived by her daughter Debbie Baker of Eustace, Texas, sons Steve Spakes and Marlin Spakes both of Kemp, Texas; siblings Charlie Weeks of Washington, Dolly Wallace of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Virginia Mitchell of Balch Springs, Texas and Elmyra Phillips of Star City, Arkansas along with a great host of grand and great-grandchildren. Sue has also left many memories with her friends and neighbors of whom were very dear to her.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eugene Spakes, son, Dennis Spakes, daughter Brenda Earnheart, son in law, Roger Baker, her brother, Leon Weeks of Star City, Arkansas, her sister, Marie Cash of Killeen, Texas and her parents.
