Vernon Byers

Vernon Travis Byers, age 87, passed away early Friday morning, March 24, 2023, at his residence in Kemp, Texas, following a lengthy illness.

Vernon was born on March 23, 1936, in Palacios, Texas to his parents the late Joe Byers and the late Fanny Towson Byers. He graduated from Kemp High School in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Margie Melton, in 1957. Vernon retired in 1990 from Sears and Roebuck following 50 years of service. He was a member of the Tolosa Baptist Church in Kemp.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 65 years, Margie; daughter, Pamela Jane Byers of Chicago, Illinois; his son, Douglas Wayne Byers (spouse – April) of Kaufman and son, Edward Allen Byers of Newark, New Jersey; granddaughters, Heather McClendon of San Antonio, and Ashley Byers of Kaufman. Three great grandchildren, Sarah, Megan, and Hailey also survive.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his brother, JB Byers, and his sister, Alice Byers.

Friends are invited to gather with the family at the Tolosa Baptist Church in Kemp to visit and share memories on Tuesday, March 28, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The Celebration of Vernon’s Life will begin at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Baker Cemetery in Kemp.
